Finding headroom to lead the next generation of storage

Those that fly under the radar are the ones flying the fastest. The rise of storage service provider Infinidat Inc. makes it seem that simple. The organization claims technology at the price point of hard drives with the performance capabilities of solid state media, DRAM, and flash. Deploying such services at scale makes Infinidat a stand-out in the industry.

“Infinidat is all about reinventing the next generation of data storage at multi-petabyte scale,” said Erik Kaulberg (pictred), vice president of cloud solutions at Infinidat. “Whether that’s for on-premises appliances where we have over 5.4 exabytes deployed [around] the world, large enterprises, or whether that’s through our cloud services like Neutrix Cloud,” Kaulberg added.

Customers with blocker file storage requirements are facing large data challenges that Infinidat has positioned itself to reach.

Kaulberg spoke with Dave Vellante (@dvellante) and John Walls (@JohnWalls21), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, during the AWS re:Invent event conference in Las Vegas. They discussed Infinidat’s competitive edge; what makes its offerings unique; and its new relationship with Amazon Web Services Inc. (* Disclosure below.)

Growing faster than it’s name-recognition

In large part, Infinidat is gaining traction due to increased market demand for storage. The company is one of a few cloud providers gaining market share rapidly, according to Vellante.  “You’re really the only guys who can make spinning disk run faster as fast as flash. Everybody else is just throwing flash at the problem. And that’s created headroom,” Vellante stated.

As data becomes increasingly valuable to customers, companies are prepared to invest more in platforms with more features.

“Fundamentally, data storage is all about economics, and we’re able to deliver through our technical advantage of blending disk, flash, and DRAM [with] cost basis advantage,” Kaulberg said.

These integrated solutions that allow enterprises to do more with their data quickly have direct bottom-line benefits. Helping companies improve their bottom line by cobbling together the best features of different platforms continues to be Infinidat’s focus.

The future of cloud requires advancements now

Infinidat’s relationship with AWS may help them capitalize on emerging trends. Once Infinidat inserts its stack into the AWS cloud, it is likely to drive services that meet other market needs.

“It’s going to drive other services. It’s going to drive [machine learning], SageMaker, backup, and all kinds of great things,” Vellante observed.

Going forward, most enterprise customers are likely to focus on cloud data services, not infrastructure. More specifically, their aim will be a transformational transition from storage arrays to storage clouds.

“We’re doing that on on-prem, we’re doing that in public cloud environments, and we’re knitting it all together with our initiative called the Elastic Data Fabric,” Kalberg stated. Elastic Data Fabric is poised to solve a major customer pain point: Few companies are able to access data services at any moment, regardless of the underlying infrastructure.
