Turning the tables on cybersecurity: Unlocking the power of AI and collaboration in business resilience

Resilience in business requires a shift in protection approach by introducing new technology that can strengthen defense against attacks.

Understanding the potential for loss in one’s business and the impact of downtime is more important than focusing on the cost of ransom in the event of a cyberattack, according to Chris Klosterman (pictured, left), alliances field chief technology officer at Cohesity Inc.

“It’s a matter of looking at the cost of avoidance there, but turning it around and saying, ‘OK, I’m going to try and put something in place ahead of time to avoid those costs if we accept the reality that likely you’ll get hit,’” Klosterman said. “There’s a lot of maybes in there. But if you look at it from that perspective, the cost can be greatly reduced and the impact to your business can be cut down massively.”

Klosterman and John Cedillo (right), vice president of OEM and alliance solution sales at Cohesity, spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Rob Strechay and Rebecca Knight at the HPE Discover Barcelona event, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed resilience in business and the role of new technology in security. (* Disclosure below.)

Collaboration based on mutual respect

Cohesity and HPE work together to assess business needs and provide solutions for critical data and applications, focusing on improving recovery time and recovery point objectives, Klosterman explained. This cooperation relies on a strong relationship based on trust and collaboration with channel partners and service providers.

“I believe it’s a partnership of recognition of that trailblazer, being that vanguard in the industry, doing something different with the ability to do it repeatably at scale,” Cedillo said. “And doing so in partnership with the customer in such a way that when things do go wrong, we have the ability to fail fast and get it right. I believe that our rate of innovation as partners is one of the key things that separates us from anyone else.”

Cohesity has artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities integrated into its core, allowing it to identify abnormal data changes and leverage AI to drive insights and improve data security posture, according to Cedillo.

“We’ve been using it for a long time, but we do have some really interesting and powerful new offerings that are going to be coming up in just a couple of months time based on leveraging AI,” he said.“We will integrate that with a large language model and then stick that on top of this massive pool of aggregated data that Cohesity has inside our clusters.”
