AI-powered data security: Ensuring data resilience in a regulated world

Veeam Software Group GmbH and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. are partnering to provide a joint solution to help organizations safeguard data from security threats and keep businesses running.

Organizations have diverse IT environments and Veeam works with HPE to provide tailored solutions for its complex needs, according to Tim Pfaelzer (pictured), vice president of enterprise, EMEA, at Veeam. Veeam is dedicated to channel and alliances because the company believes in providing a combined solution for businesses that goes beyond just software or hardware.

“If you look into what customers are using today, once we get secure, the on-premise stuff, look into what else we do on the cloud space. We are protecting the sales force,” Pfaelzer said. “If you look into Microsoft 365 offering where everything is in cloud, guess what? That data needs to be protected as well. We’re offering all of these things together, but we are offering it as a freedom of choice to the customer, same as HPE does.”

Pfaelzer spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Rob Strechay and Rebecca Knight at the HPE Discover Barcelona event, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed the collaboration between Veeam and HPE to provide tailored data protection solutions for diverse IT environments, with a focus on edge-to-cloud. (* Disclosure below.)

Data resilience

Data protection and resilience are increasingly important, especially in the European Union, according to Pfaelzer. This is because there is a need to store and analyze large amounts of data while adhering to EU regulations and ensuring instant recovery.

Veeam and HPE are working together to protect data and ensure artificial intelligence is used properly, according to Pfaelzer. Organizations provide feedback on ethical, responsibility and sustainability issues, while Veem provides efficient backup and recovery processes that save energy and resources.

“We really get the feedback, ‘Can you please help us … to protect our data and make sure that we can’t be affected,’” he said. “If we lose access to data, that’s a huge cost associated with it for every hour that’s happening. These are the big talk tracks along with AI. AI is the new thing that’s basically coming up, and a lot of companies are still struggling with it.”

Backup is the last line of defense, so it’s important to work with security alliances and partners to prevent the need for backup and to understand what constitutes a good backup, Pfaelzer explained. Veeam and HPE are working together to offer organizations secure and seamless data solutions that can be bought through HPE or any partner, and can also be consumed as a service through Veeam’s new offering called Cirrus.

“If you go to HPE and you want to have a good solution around resiliency and data security and backup, there’s a good choice that they offer you a solution when Veeam comes naturally with it,” Pfaelzer said.  “It’s simply embedded into their offering and their go-to-market piece. So, you can do it from there, but you can also buy it from any channel or any partner out there.”
