Transforming cloud technology and embracing generative AI for business outcomes

In the ever-evolving landscape of cloud technology and artificial intelligence, strategic partnerships are becoming the driving force behind transformative business solutions.

One such alliance that has been making waves is the collaboration between Wipro Ltd. and Snowflake Inc. In an interview at Snowflake Summit, Narayan Kamat (pictured), global head of strategic initiatives and partnerships at Wipro, offered a glimpse into the company’s deep-rooted partnership with Snowflake and its pioneering approach to generative AI.

“[GenAI is] absolutely disruptive, and we know that especially Wipro was marked by IDC as worldwide AI services leaders for ’23, so we know a thing or two about GenAI,” Kamat said. “Wipro’s committed a billion dollars into Wipro FullStride Cloud, which is around complete cloud modernization, digital transformation and a lot of that is investments into our partnerships, partner programs, joint solution and go-to-markets, and we are doing it pretty big with Snowflake.”

Kamat spoke with industry analysts Dave Vellante and Lisa Martin at Snowflake Summit, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed helping customers with cloud data transformation and outputting significant business outcomes. (* Disclosure below.)

Wipro and Snowflake forge a strategic alliance

With a commitment to an inch wide and a mile-deep approach, Wipro has chosen Snowflake as a top partner in its complete cloud modernization and digital transformation endeavors. The partnership has been driving substantial growth for Wipro, impacting its revenue significantly over the last three years.

Kamat’s conversation went deeper into the transformative impact of generative AI on cloud data storage and how the company fully embraces generative AI and its potential for automation and innovation. For instance, the company developed a solution for a major cigarette manufacturer, automating the quality selection process for tobacco leaves and yielding impressive annual savings of $25 to $30 million, exemplifying the tangible business value of generative AI.

“For the last three years, we’ve only seen growth, about 200%, in terms of how it’s impacting our revenue and the business outcomes that are reflecting off to our customers,” Kamat said.

Generative AI: A disruptive force in cloud data transformation

With data being the fuel that propels every industry use case and customer success, the significance of seamless integration between apps and data cannot be overlooked. The value of having a digital twin of an organization to enable precise AI predictions leads to better solutions and outcomes, according to Kamat.

Discussing the balance between data engineering inside and outside of Snowflake, Kamat acknowledged the diverse needs of different customers. While some prefer closer integration between data and applications within Snowflake for faster and more efficient solutions, others might choose a federated architecture with certain engines outside of Snowflake. Regardless of the approach, the ultimate goal remains to achieve quick and cost-effective results.

“We are seeing now apps coming closer to the data than data going in, so your data should be wholesome, intrinsic,” Kamat said. “The least dependency on anything outside, the better it is … the engine to data and your apps, the closer they are, the faster and better it is to churn out a business solution.”
