Effectual helps Ginnie Mae transform digitally despite government hurdles

With over 200+ Amazon Web Services Inc.  certifications, Effectual Inc. is an expert at transformative cloud solutions, specializing in the public sector and boasting expertise in federal standards to ensure the most successful outcomes in their modernization efforts.

During the 2021 AWS Public Sector Partner Awards roll out, Effectual was named the winner of the “Best Partner Transformation” award for its exceptional efforts helping public sector companies adapt to the cloud and a digital economy.

“The first thing to be aware of is you don’t have to be afraid of the cloud as some very obscure technology that is just emerging,” said Josh Dirsmith (pictured, left), vice president of public sector at Effectual. “It’s been out for 10 years now; customers across government space are using it.

Dirsmith and Jeremy Yates (pictured, right), deputy technology architect at the Government National Mortgage Association, known as Ginnie Mae, spoke with Natalie Erlich, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, during the 2021 AWS Global Public Sector Partner Awards. They discussed Effectual’s AWS award, its assistance with Ginnie Mae’s digital transformation, working remotely and more. (*Disclosure below.)

Following guidelines

Ginnie Mae, a government-owned corporation within the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, has seen large transformations and growth since teaming up with Effectual in early 2020.

“We’re looking at the various things to modernize, like our culture and structural changes within the organization, moving to implement proven practices like DevSecOps and continuous integration and continuous delivery or deployment,” Yates said.

A challenge that arises with working with public sector entities is following strict federal and financial guidelines, a hurdle that both Ginnie Mae and Effectual had to navigate to get the most out of its construction of modern cloud infrastructure. One such challenge was ensuring that all logs were shipped to a central repository.

“What Effectual has done in partnership with Ginnie Mae is create an AWS-native solution, leveraging some of those third-party tools … to get all of those logs aggregated in a central repository for Ginnie Mae to inspect, ingest and take action from,” Yates explained.

Effectual also provided a mechanism to send the logs to the Department of Homeland Security and correlate the information with everything coming in across government feeds.
